Throwback Thursday: Toss it for Ted

Posted By: Unknown - 3:00 AM
Today's Throwback Thursday will feature a program that was once successful and highlight a project that TNP plans to host this Spring. Beginning this May, TNP will allow residents, businesses and organizations to decorate a trashcan to place in the community.

In the early 90s growing up, the Toss it for Ted campaign kicked off around town. Trashcans were placed around town and a sign "Toss it for Ted" filled our street corners. People had a reason to keep our streets clear of debris. The program slowly ended for political challenges. But we'll save that topic for another blog!

One way to make our streets clean again is to create a reason for residents to pick up trash. The Toss it for Ted slogan was enough motivation for pedestrians on the street to think twice before littering.

The Norristown Project would like to put our own spin on this program with a trashcan art project. Businesses, residents and organizations will have the ability to adopt a trashcan to decorate and place in the community. Back in January, TNP purchased 20 cans from Restore Montco for this purpose.

If anyone is interested in becoming involved in this exciting project can email NorristownProject@gmail.com. Businesses, organizations and residents would have to provide their own paint and supplies for the project. Who knows, maybe there will be a prize for the best designed trashcan!

So keep your eye out for more information closer to May. Together, let's beautify Norristown by adding a little art to the town!

Would have like to see this project not connect to the Past "Toss it For Ted" Cans. It will always be a bad reminded of how Public Officials Use their position to Campaign using Tax payer Money....

Understood. However, the project is not connected to Toss it for Ted. We simply mentioned in as a throwback Thursday theme. Our trashcans were 100% purchased out of pocket by myself. No taxpayer money, no grants, and no donations. Our program gives the residents control of the project. They can design a trashcan with their own taste. If you're interested in learning more about the project, you can email me at NorristownProject@gmail.com . Thanks!
