Music Monday Spotlight: Lil J
Posted By: Unknown - 3:00 AMHappy Monday! This week's Music Monday will inspire you to go out and achieve your dreams and give you another hometown artist to support. Jordan 'Lil J' Reynolds is a 16 year old musician that attends NAHS. Lil J's raps tell a strong story of struggle and how he overcame many obstacles in his life that we will touch on a little.
He began recording with Rotation Records last year with no prior experience in a studio; He hasn't even heard his own voice through headphones and a microphone before Rotation Records. To say the least, he had some learning to do if anyone wanted to take his music seriously!
Lil J came to the studio with notebooks filled with lyrics and ideas and an interest in recording his work. However, he was hesitant to start the creative process. "He was very standoffish and shy at first," Rotation Records wrote in a statement. "But this came with a good reason." His notebooks began to speak.
Unfortunately, he fell victim to bullying which resulted in him losing friends at an important time in his life. Like many families in Norristown, his upbringing wasn't glamorous or easy either. This made going to school much more difficult for Jordan. One of his songs talks about his struggle with bullying and losing a loved one. You can hear a song about his life and how he dealt with bullying by clicking here (parental advisory).
Rotation Records saw through the rough exterior and took him under their wing to help him get his message out. As a result, he grew more and more confident in his music which showed each recording session he came in for.
With fine tuning and hard work, Jordan's first mixtape was finally complete and ready to be released. The word of this new artist quickly grew and he was able to sell out of his first CD and witness a ton of downloads online. This gave Lil J confidence he needed to overcome the hurdles in his life and keep moving forward to follow his dreams..
Currently, J is planning on releasing another mixtape (second one in seven months) with Rotation Records and they look to achieve a bigger name for Jordan and his MC counterpart. He continues daily to put the pen to paper and write down whatever rhymes or thoughts that come into mind and shows great ethic. He focuses on perfecting his craft, and it shows as time progresses.
